Job Description


Our client is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) specializing in MEP engineering services for healthcare, government, and commercial clients. 

We are seeking a motivated HVAC Commissioning Engineer / Specialist with 2–5 years of experience to spearhead a new commissioning division within our company. This is an opportunity to join a growing firm and take ownership of building out a critical service area.
HVAC Commissioning Engineer / Specialist Key Responsibilities
  • Lead commissioning activities for HVAC and mechanical systems across healthcare, government, and commercial projects.
  • Conduct site visits to verify installation and performance of HVAC equipment, including air handling units, VAVs, chillers, boilers, and controls.
  • Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and documentation templates in alignment with ASHRAE guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Perform functional performance testing, troubleshooting, and verification of building automation system (BAS) sequences.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve issues and deliver high-quality commissioning reports.
  • Assist in establishing and growing the company’s commissioning division, including helping shape internal processes and standards.
HVAC Commissioning Engineer / Specialist Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Systems, or related field OR equivalent field experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience in HVAC commissioning, testing and balancing (TAB), or mechanical system startup.
  • Familiarity with air handling units, VAV systems, fan coils, chillers, boilers, and heat pumps.
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings and specifications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for client interaction and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); experience with commissioning software (CxAlloy, Bluebeam, etc.) is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
  • Ability to access mechanical rooms, ladders, and active construction environments.
HVAC Commissioning Engineer / Specialist Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE Guideline 0 and 1.1, LEED commissioning requirements, and VA or federal commissioning standards.
  • Prior experience in medical/VA facilities or mission-critical projects.
  • EIT, PE, CxA, or other commissioning certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Membership in ASHRAE, AABC, or BCA.
